Nintendo Introduces Nintendo Switch OLED Model With Upgraded Features And Enhanced Audio

Nintendo is preparing to add another member to the Nintendo Switch family of consoles with the Nintendo Switch OLED Model which was officially unveiled on July 6th, 2021 and will give players another option for how they want to play their favourite Nintendo titles. The next iteration of the popular gaming console will release on October 8th, 2021 and retail for $449.99 CAD and features a larger and vibrant 7-inch OLED screen with vivid colours and crisp contrast.

The Nintendo Switch OLED Model features a wider adjustable stand for players to set the perfect viewing angle which will provide more stable support for Tabletop Mode as opposed to the offset one that is currently found on the standard Nintendo Switch console. The Dock has also been updated to include a wired Local Area Network (LAN) port which offers another way for players to connect and play with their friends online; cable sold separately.

Internally, the Nintendo Switch OLED Model includes 64GB of storage with the option to expand it via compatible microSD cards whilst the battery life remains the same as the previous Nintendo Switch model at approximately 4.5 – 9 hours of gameplay. Audio has also been enhanced via the onboard speakers for clearer sound when playing in Handheld and Tabletop modes and all Nintendo Switch titles and existing Joy-Con controllers will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch OLED Model.

Following the announcement, Doug Bowser, President, Nintendo of America commented on the news saying “the new Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) is a great option for players who want to experience the new vibrant screen when playing in handheld and tabletop mode. With the addition of this new model to the Nintendo Switch family of systems, people have an additional choice of a system that best fits the gaming experience they desire – whether it’s Nintendo Switch (OLED Model), Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite.”

Pre-orders are available now at participating retailers and the Nintendo Switch OLED Model will officially launch on October 8th, 2021 in two different colour sets including White and Neon Red/Blue.
