The Dragon Isles have been awakened as Blizzard recently announced their latest expansion for the massively popular and beloved online game – World of Warcraft – which will have players taking flight through the skies of Azeroth to explore an ancient primordial wonder. After leaving their home behind to combat a terrible threat ripping Azeroth apart, the Dragonflights have returned after 10,000 years and as Azeroth begins to heal, they are ready to safeguard their ancestral land and become protectors once again. The expansion was officially revealed on April 19th, 2022 via World of Warcraft social media accounts which included a somber yet exhilarating cinematic that provided community members with a glimpse into the age of dragons and the scale of what players can expect from this adventure.
The upcoming World of Warcraft: Dragonflight expansion will be introducing a new playable race to the game – Dracthyr Evoker – which also designates the class for this particular character; it subsequently makes it the first ever hybrid to become available in the history of the game. In a similar fashion to that of the Worgen race, players will have the opportunity to switch between their humanoid form and the fearsome draconic form with Dracthyr Evokers able to willingly choose between pledging allegiance to either the Alliance or Horde factions respectively; Pandaren players have that same choice. The starting region for Dracthyr Evoker characters resembles that within the Pandaren playthrough – learning how to use their new found powers and abilities prior to venturing off into the vast universe.
Players can master the art of Dragonriding – a new form of aerial movement – which is actually quite different from what is available today. Jake Miller, Senior Game Designer, Content says that Blizzard is “aiming to shake up movement with this new system, providing players with a deeper immersion with forces like momentum and gravity” and those elements will be noticeable during gameplay as stated by Andrew Arnett, Lead Animator who explains that they wanted to add a movement system that would add that sense of physics, weight, and gravity with contrails appearing off the wings once the maximum velocity has been reached; on-screen effects show up as well – adding to that unique experience.
There are four new Dragon Isles Drake mounts coming to World of Warcraft: Dragonflight and players will have a wide assortment of customizable options – millions of combinations – to choose from which can be used to modify their appearance and make them work for their loadout including different sizes of snouts, horns, tails, armour, spikes, and more! World of Warcraft: Dragonflight will also be making a few significant updates and improvements to the HUD (Heads-up Display) alongside a new crafting and profession system, new dungeons and raids to conquer, increased level cap, and the largest revamp of the talent system to date. Players can register for a chance to preview World of Warcraft: Dragonflight before it releases to the public; signing up does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
World of Warcraft is available now exclusively on Windows PC and Mac OS with a paid subscription required to access most content; gameplay FREE until Level 20 has been reached.
