Epic Games has brought the prestigious Serpentine North Gallery to the world of Fortnite for a limited time, giving players the unique opportunity to experience a virtual art show from the comfort of their home. Located on the grounds of Kensington Gardens in London, England – the historic art gallery has been one of the world’s leading champions of NEW ideas in contemporary art since 1970 with previous exhibitions showcasing a wide range of emerging practitioners to some of the most internationally recognized artists including Andy Warhol – a leading figure in the visual art movement.
The KAWS & Serpentine Hub originally opened on January 18th, 2022 at 10AM EST and will serve as the Featured Hub through January 25th, 2022 at 10AM EST before officially shutting its doors and turning off the lights. Players looking to attend the exhibition and take in the sights afterwards will be able to access it from Creative Mode – 9441-7852-6686 – where they can experience everything and appreciate the art alongside their friends, family, and online communities. This is not the first time that KAWS has made an appearance in Fortnite as the digital persona of artist Brian Donnelly was also a participant in the 2021 Fortnitemares event. Epic Games is making history once again as this is the first time that a real-world art exhibition and gallery has been recreated and added into a video game.
Players looking for another layer of interactivity with the art exhibit can download the Acute Art App from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store respectfully to bridge the physical and virtual worlds together. NEW FICTION, KAWS is presented in collaboration with Acute Art and curated by the Artistic Director of Acute Art – Daniel Birnbaum. All of the paintings and sculptures which are currently being featured in the show will exist as AR (Augmented Reality) works and thus can be placed and viewed by anyone around the world and also shared across social media; inside and outside the location.
