Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake Announced Exclusively For PlayStation 5 Consoles
Widely regarded as one of the greatest Star Wars video games of all time, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is getting the remastered treatment with modern technology, features, visual enhancements, and more – while maintaining the integrity of the original story and characters that fans have come to cherish over the years. The project is being handled by Sony Interactive Entertainment and Aspyr Media with Lucasfilm Games also working closely on the development which is set to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive title at launch. The announcement kicked off the latest PlayStation Showcase event that took place on September 9th, 2021 at 4PM EST.
A groundbreaking achievement in storytelling, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic takes place over 4,000 years prior to the events of the original trilogy. The game featured a diverse cast of characters to meet, multiple planets to discover and explore, challenging combat to master, and incredible cinematic experiences that responded to the choices that players made throughout their playthrough; resulting in it winning multiple awards and accolades. It has since become a pillar in the gaming community and remains to be one of the most beloved and celebrated video games around the world.
Confirming the news on the PlayStation Blog shortly after the conclusion of the roughly 40 minute presentation, Ryan Treadwell, Lead Producer, Aspyr Media stated:
Why remake Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic? Well, nearly 20 years after it first debuted, the original KOTOR is still one of the most beloved games of all time. And even as Star Wars travels to new horizons, we know the community is as eager as ever to return to this iconic era of storytelling and action.

Aspyr Media is no stranger to working on and developing Star Wars titles as a portion of their team also worked on the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game in addition to other related projects including Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Star Wars: Republic Commando and Star Wars: Episode I – Racer as well. Lucasfilm Games is working closely on the project to provide guidance and offering their expertise as to how to best carry this beloved title into the modern age of gaming; a tremendous undertaking.
Treadwell explains that the game is in early development and that Aspyr Media is extremely happy to finally reveal the project to the PlayStation community. It is unclear as to when Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake will launch but fans are likely going to have to wait a few years before getting the opportunity to return to a galaxy far, far away…
