Fortnite: Wrecked Fuels Up Season 3 With Vehicular Warfare Tearing Through An Apocalyptic Wasteland

Olympus has fallen and a ferocious sandstorm has swept across the island – bringing forth a group known only as the “Wasteland Warriors” where nitro-crazed warlord Megalo Don rules with an iron fist and stakes his claim on the region. Wrecked officially dropped on May 24th, 2024 and Epic Games pumped quite a lot of content into their latest season with vehicular warfare driving things forward well into the summer months – August 16th, 2024 marking its conclusion. Players will notice a temporary pause on communication and regular content updates for three weeks in July as the studio disembarks for some well deserved rest and relaxation; summer themed event will occupy that window.

Players can explore a sandy biome in the southern region of the map where refineries and pipelines stretch as far as the eye can see – very Mad Max inspired. But what exactly is the focus of those refinery operations? Nitro is a coveted resource which powers everything the Wasteland Warriors command including vehicles; a few sips can transform players into unstoppable moving forces. Gunplay is taking a backseat this season with Epic Games shifting toward vehicular combat which includes an expanded variety of modifications like Machine Gun Turrets on the roof and Bulletproof Tires for countering the former defensively. Players can drive into Vehicle Mod Boxes to equip them immediately and repair any damage at Service Stations – park on the designated station pad for a quick fix.

The wasteland demands the absolute BEST vehicles and Epic Games has provided plenty of options including the War Bus equipped with EMP Pulses to temporarily disable all vehicles within the radiating blast zone. The primary antagonists – The Machinist, Ringmaster Scarr, and Megalo Don – possess specialized and outright Mad Max level rides which are housed within their designated lairs; each is fully equipped for battle. Sports Utility Vehicles have officially been added to Fortnite as Locker cosmetics with the same level of customization as sports cars and players can procure the Behemoth SUV Bundle for 1,800 V-Bucks from the Item Shop which includes the following SUV reserved items:

  • Behemoth Car Body | Behemoth Offroad Wheels | Behemoth Blackout Wheels
  • Flames Decal | Lightning Decal | Stripes Decal | Wings Decal
  • Behemoth Blackout Decal | Behemoth Dune Hunter Decal

Medallions have returned this season – obtainable from bosses – with game changing advantages including infinite Nitro boosting for vehicles and unlimited ammo. The Battle Pass has apocalyptic vibes through and through with Magento donning wasteland apparel and Bethesda’s iconic T-60 Power Armour from the Fallout series – Nuka-Cola can be consumed for health and shield replenishment over time; players collect a single gold bar with each bottle. The critical success of Amazon Prime’s Fallout starring Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets, Arcane) and Walton Goggins (Justified, Invincible) could easily pave the way for further collaborations with the property although nothing has been confirmed.

The Fortnite storyline – albeit convoluted at times – has started to regain its footing. Each season of Chapter 5 has ended with a small in-game event to help build excitement with players rushing online to be a part of the action. Epic Games used to conclude nearly every single season with a grand-scale experience – typically running around 15 minutes before going into downtime. Those are now reserved for December when the current Chapter comes to an end which has been met with mixed feelings amongst the community but perhaps the tide is shifting back towards those glory days.

Fortnite is available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Windows PC, Amazon Luna, and Android devices with iOS compatibility available through GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
