PlayStation 5 Consoles Will Get A Splash Of Colour With Upcoming Covers And DualSense Controllers
The PlayStation 5 console – an artistic blank canvas – is getting three additional splashes of colour with the latest DualSense wireless controller offerings alongside an entirely NEW hardware accessory which will allow players to fully customize their consoles. The exciting announcement was confirmed through the PlayStation Blog on December 13th, 2021 by Isabelle Tomatis, Senior Director, PS VR, eSports, Peripherals Marketing and Licensing, SIE with details on the upcoming galactic colour options as well as the official reveal of Console Covers – matching faceplates which can be swapped out to replace the standard White covers that are included with the current PlayStation 5 console.
PlayStation has already previously released two galactic inspired colours for the DualSense wireless controller on June 18th, 2021 with the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red options which also served as an introduction to a world (or universe) of possibilities regarding the future of PlayStation 5 hardware and accessories. When asked about the aforementioned colours, Leo Cardoso, Senior Designer and CMF Design Lead (Color, Material and Finish) stated: “Our goal is to always find designs that will surprise and entice our fans, and these new colors are the result of an extensive selection process. We wanted the new controller colors to complement each other – so we designed the colors around the theme of ‘galaxy’ as it felt like a natural progression from the original PS5 and accessories designs.”
The newest colour options include: Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple – continuing with the galactic theme that PlayStation has navigated. Each controller will retail for $94.99 CAD and shipments have begun rolling out to participating retailers throughout the following locations: Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Japan, the United States, and more! Players in Canada can now order the Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple DualSense wireless controllers from Best Buy Canada and Walmart Canada as well as The Source and GameStop Canada with shipments already rolling out and being delivered.
Players looking to customize their PlayStation 5 can do so with the exclusive Console Cover accessory which Tomatis assures are incredibly easy to use. In order to attach them properly, players simply need to remove the white (or whichever is equipped) covers and secure the desired ones into place; mixing and matching is certainly a viable option. Console Covers will be compatible with the Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive Edition as well as the Digital Edition of the PlayStation 5 consoles; sold separately. Each package contains two panels (left and right) which will retail for $69.99 CAD and are currently available for preorder from participating retailers including Best Buy Canada with additional retail locations likely to follow in the near future; Walmart Canada, The Source, and GameStop Canada respectively.
The Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple versions of the Console Covers will arrive before June 2022 with the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red colours scheduled to begin shipping around January 28th, 2022 while supplies last; more stock will be delivered over the coming months.
