South of Midnight
Montreal based developer Compulsion Games took players behind the scenes of South of Midnight which features a hand-crafted art style inspired by stop-motion animation. Players will assume the role of 19-year old Hazel as she discovers her abilities as a Weaver – those that can see the fabric which binds the world together: connecting people, nature, and echoes of the past. The game is set against a tapestry of southern landscapes inspired by Sothern Gothic folklore and includes encounters with larger than life alligator Two-Toed Tom and a winged Rougarou beast. Weaving can be used to remove stigmas and mend inflicted or vanquish creatures – confront Haints that manifest corruption.
South of Midnight launches on April 8th, 2025 exclusively for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Sandfall Interactive – located in Montpellier, France – showcased Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 which is their debut title that started out as a passion project. The game takes place against a fantastical version of 19th century Belle Époque, France with turn-based RPG combat. The compelling story revolves around a Paintress who emerges annually to inscribe a number on a monolith – those aged above that number ceases to exist. Players will explore a dark and mature world where the heart of the story involves overcoming an existential threat – struggling with loss and grief. Characters can be customized with skill trees designed to ensure that every available class is a viable option for players.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launches on April 24th, 2025 for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC.
DOOM: The Dark Ages
Set before the events of DOOM (2016) – DOOM: The Dark Ages pushes players to the frontlines of a medieval war against Hell with locations to explore, devastating weapons to unleash, and nightmarish enemies to conquer. Combat has shifted to focus on making players feel like an iron tank with a grounded combat system different than DOOM: Eternal (2020) which depended on acrobatics and jump and shoot sequences. The standout weapon – Shield Saw – allows players to parry attacks, bulldoze enemies – and rip them open. Players can customize their combat experience with difficulty sliders and options to either speed up or slow down the action; first time ever in a id Software title.
DOOM: The Dark Ages launches on May 15th, 2025 for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC.
