Fortnite Celebrates Annual Star Wars Day Event By Unvaulting Lightsabers And Intergalactic Cosmetics
The force is strong with Fortnite and Epic Games is dusting off their X-Wings and putting on their finest Jedi robes in celebration of Star Wars Day – an annual fan-made holiday that is observed on May 4th and used to honour the legacy of George Lucas’s iconic universe, characters, and stories. For those that might be unaware of the significance of this particular day, the numerical date – Fourth – replaces the word “Force” in a clever play on words that transforms one of the most recognizable quotes throughout cinematic history. As a result, the phrase “May the Force be with you” which has been exchanged and spoken by countless individuals including Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Obi-Wan Kenobi becomes the genius “May the Fourth be with you” which Yoda would undoubtedly express with a gentle smile.
Players will be able to wield their very own lightsaber in Fortnite until May 17th, 2022 with four unique variations – Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren, Mace Windu, and Obi-Wan Kenobi – or even embrace their inner Stormtrooper with the E-11 Blaster Rifle which can be found around the Island. Epic Games has also introduced a series of Star Wars Quests to earn some Empire Accreditation; and although players might not get a thumbs up from Darth Vader for completing these galactic challenges, they will still take home an Empire Banner for a job well done. There are six Quests in total and each one awards an additional 30,000 XP towards leveling up the Battle Pass for those looking to unlock any remaining rewards.
Returning to the Item Shop from a galaxy far, far away is every single Star Wars related cosmetic that has ever been released – excluding any Battle Pass rewards. Players can pick up Boba Fett or Fennec Shand whom were last seen back in February 2022 as The Book of Boba Fett wrapped up its inaugural first season on Disney+ as well as Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren whom were all respectively last seen exactly two years ago during the last Star Wars Day celebrations; skipped in 2021 for unknown reasons.
Fortnite is available now on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 Pro, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Windows PC, and Android devices – iOS compatibility is available through the GeForce Now subscription service.
