Fortnite Imposters Tasks Players With Uncovering The Traitors Hiding Amongst The Imagined Order
Epic Games is expanding the Fortnite storyline and giving players the opportunity to explore the Imagined Order headquarters known as The Bridge which has previously only been seen in cutscenes and trailers. During the Chapter 2 – Season 2 LIVE Event, John Jones’ office was briefly visible during the finale event and players will now be able to navigate through the location in its entirety whilst seeking out those that aim to bring down the organization from the inside; a callback to Agent Jones having decided to leave after the IO failed to assist him with the Zero Point crisis.
Fortnite Imposters is a brand NEW mode with a maximum of ten players – eight of which take on the role of the Agents working to maintain the operation of The Bridge whilst the remaining two players take on the role of the Imposters whom are looking to overtake it and sabotage the Agents’ work in the process. The gaming community was quick to point out the similarities between Fortnite Imposters and Among Us which features similar gameplay elements and mechanics, however, no official collaboration between Epic Games and Innersloth was active during the development of this game mode.
Players are randomly assigned their roles at the beginning of the each session. Agents are tasked with ensuring that The Bridge continues to run like a well-oiled machine by calibrating chests and llamas, repairing the Battle Bus, delivering Storm analysis reports, and much more! Players can communicate with each other via in-game Emotes which include Nod Head, Point Finger, and Shake Head to help expose anyone trying to masquerade as a fellow Agent. The Imagined Order is considered victorious once all assignments have been completed or after both Imposters have been eliminated.
The Imposters have one simple goal – eliminate enough Agents to take control of The Bridge without being discovered and ejected from the game. Players will have three primary tasks:
- Disable Assignments – temporarily freeze progress across all assignments; stalling progress
- Teleport Players – relocate Agents and Imposters to different locations; help cover your tracks
- Peely Party – transform all players into Peely and blend in with the crowd
Imposters will have a list of assignments to complete which will help them to gain the trust of opposing Agents but will also result in the Agents getting closer to their own personal competition goals and should be used wisely and with extreme caution.
Those looking to compete with or against their friends can do so with Fortnite Imposters and any remaining slots will be filled with other players. Epic Games has disabled Public Voice Chat within the game mode to help keep things fair with Party Chat remaining available to keep the communication lines open. Players can fully customize their own gameplay experience by switching to the “Private” setting prior to launching the game mode which will ensure that only those invited to participate will be added to the roster; best experienced with ten players as games with four to seven players will only have a single Imposter as opposed to two Imposters with eight to ten players.
Discussions can be called at any time during the session – after a brief cooldown – or once an Agent Fragment has been found and reported. Players can discuss their progress and share any information that might be useful in tracking down and unmasking the Imposters with Emotes and the Quick Chat menu which can be used to ask contextual questions as well as provide evidence and insight into any suspicious activity. At the end of the discussion, players can vote to eject someone from the game or choose to skip their vote for that round if there is not enough evidence to support an eviction.
Epic Games has not announced whether Fortnite Imposters will be a Limited-Time Mode (LTM) or remain as a permanent gameplay mode; given that it is built around a fundamental aspect of the Fortnite lore, it would be logical to assume that it will be sticking around for the foreseeable future or at least until the conclusion of the Chapter 2 – Season 7 storyline.
Fortnite is available now on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 Pro, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Windows PC, and Android devices.
