PlayStation Portal Remote Play Device Launching In November; Pulse Audio Accessories Enhancements
Sony has made tremendous leaps in innovation with the PlayStation 5 console that has revolutionized the way that video games are played and experienced. Hyptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers provide players with a heightened level of immersion from their favourite games including Gran Turismo 7 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart respectively. Sony has continued to succeed in showcasing the pure potential of the platform with products like PlayStation VR2 pushing the boundaries within the virtual space alongside Console Covers which allow players to individually customize their PS5 consoles to suit their own personal style. And now the highly anticipated gaming peripheral – Project Q – which was teased during the PlayStation Showcase on May 24th, 2023 is taking centre stage and set to launch soon.

The PlayStation Portal – formally Project Q – was revealed on August 23rd, 2023 and later confirmed by Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President, Platform Experience, SIE that the remote player will launch on November 15th, 2023 in Canadian markets. Players will be able to pre-order the PlayStation Portal from participating retailers on September 29th, 2023 and is priced at approximately $269 CAD based on the United States price of $199 USD – exact price is currently unknown. Players in select European countries including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Luxembourg can secure their pre-orders through PlayStation directly.
Specifications for the PlayStation Portal include an 8-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution capable of outputting 60fps whilst utilizing key features of the DualSense controllers – adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. Players can connect to their PlayStation 5 remotely over Wi-Fi and instantly jump back into their favourite games from any location within their residence; PS5 must be powered on in order to use device; not intended to serve as portable gaming device for travel. Nishino explains that the PlayStation Portal will be able to play supported PS5 games which are installed on the console and require the use of DualSense controllers; PlayStation VR2 titles are not compatible nor cloud streaming specifics.
Sony is also releasing two audio devices which will pair perfectly with the PlayStation Portal – 3.5mm audio jack is built-in to the device. The Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore wireless headset and earbuds will bring next level performance to the gaming experience with a retractable boom mic for the Pulse Elite and dual microphones with matching charging case for the Pulse Explore – both offer lossless audio and AI-enhanced noise rejection; charging hanger included with Pulse Elite accessory. The Pulse Elite headset will retail for approximately $205 CAD while the Pulse Explore earbuds will retail for $272 CAD based on USD price points; SophistiGamer will report finalized pricing once it becomes available.
The Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore devices are able to connect directly to the PlayStation Portal through PlayStation Link which delivers low latency and lossless audio to those accessories; players can use them across multiple devices including Windows PC, Mac, and mobile. A USB adapter is required when using PlayStation Link connectivity which will subsequently be available as a standalone product but will be included with all Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore accessories. Sony has not yet announced a launch date for the Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore but pre-orders are expected to start in the near future.
