Insomniac Games Reveals Mysterious New Lombax Protagonist In Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart As Rivet

As Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart prepares to launch worldwide on June 11th, 2021 exclusively for PlayStation 5 consoles, Insomniac Games surprised fans with a brand NEW gameplay trailer for the upcoming title which showcased some impressive visuals and cinematic elements in addition to finally revealing the identity of the female Lombax who appears on the official cover art for the game. Insomniac Games has been incredibly tight lipped on this piece of information and assured fans back in February 2021 via the PlayStation Blog that a formal introduction would be coming in the near future.

After weeks of speculation and wonder, Marcus Smith, Creative Director, Insomniac Games confirmed via the PlayStation Blog on April 26th, 2021 that the female Lombax is named Rivet and that she is a resistance fighter from another dimension where the evil Emperor Nefarious hunts all those who oppose him. Later that same day, it was revealed that Jennifer Hale – Female Shepard (FemShep) from the Mass Effect series – would be voicing this NEW character that will be joining Ratchet and Clank on their latest adventure.

The gameplay trailer highlighted NEW locations including Nefarious City and alternate dimension versions of old favourites such as Sargasso and Torren IV while Uncontrollable Urge by DEVO played in the background; a choice which actually has a special meaning beyond simply being an exciting musical track. Smith excitedly announced that Mark Mothersbaugh – co-founder DEVO – is the composer for the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart soundtrack with previous work including the original Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter franchises. Samples of the soundtrack can be heard on the official PlayStation SoundCloud account.

Insomniac Games also provided fans with a look at the five armour suits that will be bundled in the Digital Deluxe Edition of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and include: Imperial Armour, Scavenger Armour, Android Armour, Rebel Armour, and Hacker Armour suits which are exclusive pre-order bonuses to this particular version of the game with no word on whether they will be available to purchase at a later date. The Digital Deluxe Edition of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will retail for $99.99 CAD and can be pre-ordered directly from the PlayStation Store and at participating retailers.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is scheduled to release on June 11th, 2021 exclusively for PlayStation 5.
