PlayStation Partners With Backbone To Develop iOS Exclusive Controller Which Is Inspired By DualSense
PlayStation announced on July 28th, 2022 that they have partnered with Backbone – a leader in mobile gaming perfection – to release a portable gaming accessory designed to give players the opportunity to easily access and play their favourite PlayStation titles wherever the road takes them. Sharing the news on the PlayStation Blog, Maneet Khaira, CEO, Backbone explained that the product materialized as a result from a collaborative effort between the development teams with intricate design elements taken directly from the PlayStation 5 controller – colours, materials, and finishes. Backbone even matched the floating appearance of the transparent buttons because according to Khaira, it makes it feel like it truly belongs to the PlayStation 5 family – the PULSE 3D headset which pairs seamlessly with the device.
Players can purchase the iOS exclusive PlayStation Edition for $139 CAD through the Backbone website with compatibility ranging from iPhone 6 to iPhone 13 Pro Max models. Charging cables and external batteries are not required in order to use the device as Backbone One controllers are powered entirely by the smartphones themselves which collapses for easy storage. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom along with a pass-through lightning port to charge the iPhone simultaneously; encouraging news for those that wish to play games and not drain their battery in the process.
The Backbone One – PlayStation Edition is available for purchase in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Australia, Germany, New Zealand, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom with more launches scheduled for the future. Players will need a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 console in addition to the Remote Play App and PlayStation Network account in order to access the aforementioned streaming service to their device; can be used with data connections or Wi-Fi locations with at least 15Mbps for a quality experience – PlayStation VR titles are not compatible.
