PlayStation Play At Home Initiative Returns With Four Months Of Games And Entertainment
The past 12 months have been a struggle as the world continues to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic and dealing with all of the physical, mental, and financial effects. Although the vaccine rollouts and distributions have slowly began, there is still a long way to go before any sense of normalcy returns and things start picking up again. With people staying at home or working remotely, video games have become a powerful distraction during these difficult times and Sony is once again doing something to thank the community for doing their part and staying safe in these uncertain times.
Jim Ryan, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced via the PlayStation Blog on February 23rd, 2021 that the PlayStation Play At Home Initiative which launched back in April 2020 will be returning for another year and offer players a selection of free games and entertainment offers for the PlayStation community in order to make the next few months a little more fun and enjoyable. Previous titles included were Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey with Knack 2 being available to those in Germany and China in lue of receiving Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection as a FREE title.
PlayStation Play At Home kicked things off earlier this month on March 1st, 2021 with PlayStation and Insomniac Games offering players the opportunity to download Ratchet & Clank (2016) for FREE through March 31st, 2021 for a limited time. This iteration of the beloved series is a reimagining of the first entry which released back in November 2002 exclusively for PlayStation 2 and features a mix of outrageous combat and comedy that will entertain players of all ages.
Ryan recently updated the #PlayAtHome offerings on March 17th, 2021 with a list of nine (9) additional titles that will be available to download for FREE starting on March 25th, 2021 and includes a selection from their top independent partners including ABZÛ, Enter the Gungeon, Rez Infinite, Subnautica, and The Witness as well as a variety of PlayStation VR titles including Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Moss, Thumper, and Paper Beast which will be available through April 22nd, 2021 for a limited time. The DualShock 4 wireless controller will be required in order to play Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Moss, and Paper Beast along with the necessary PlayStation VR hardware; PlayStation 5 players will need to acquire a PlayStation Camera Adapter which is currently being offered for FREE to those with PlayStation VR with a limit of one per household.
The fun will continue well into Spring as players will soon be able to download Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition starting on April 19th, 2021 which includes Horizon Zero Dawn and the Frozen Wilds Expansion which released back in November 2017 to critical acclaim with a sequel – Horizon Forbidden West – scheduled to release later this year.
