Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut Announced For PS4 & PS5 Consoles With Iki Island Story Expansion

PlayStation and Sucker Punch have announced that Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will be releasing on August 20th, 2021 with a NEW chapter in Jin’s story as well as several updates and features which have been frequently requested by the community. Ghost of Tsushima has received numerous accolades since it launched on July 17th, 2020 including Best Art Direction at The Game Awards which was held on December 10th, 2020 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.

The news was confirmed by Andrew Goldfarb, Communications Manager, Sucker Punch Productions via the PlayStation Blog on July 1st, 2021 with details on what players can expect in the latest edition of the game such as the Iki Island story expansion, PlayStation 5 exclusive features, additional accessibility options, and more! Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will include the original game as well as every piece of downloadable content (DLC) that has since been released.

One of the newest pieces of content coming to Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut is the Iki story expansion which marks a NEW chapter in Jin’s journey and sees players traveling to the neighboring island of Iki to investigate rumours of a Mongol presence; this historical event occurred during the same time as the Tsushima invasion. As the story progresses, Jin will find himself caught up in a series of events with deep personal connections and force himself to relive some traumatic moments from his past. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will feature NEW environments to explore, armour to collect, combat techniques to master, enemy types, and more!

While Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will release on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 respectively, there are several key features which will be exclusive and only accessible to players on PlayStation 5 consoles. Sucker Punch has listened to community feedback and added a top tier feature that was absent from the original release of Ghost of Tsushima – Japanese Lip Sync – a feature that was achieved through the power of the PlayStation 5 console and its ability to render cinematics in real time; Japanese dubbed audio will now match facial animations in all cutscenes.

The PlayStation 5 version of Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will also take full advantage of the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback on the DualSense Wireless Controller as well as enhancements to 3D audio, drastically improved load times, 60 frames per second (FPS), and 4K resolution. Those with previous save files on PlayStation 4 will be able to transfer their progress over to PlayStation 5 and continue the adventure with NEW players able to access Iki Island during Act 2 of Ghost of Tsushima and after successfully reaching the Toyotama region in the game.

Players will be required to download a patch upon release that contains some NEW accessibility options including alternate controller layouts and the option to enable target lock-on during combat; quivers can now be hidden during gameplay. Fans of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will also be receiving a few updates at no additional cost to players on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles with Sucker Punch stating that more details will be provided in the coming weeks.

Players will be able to pick up Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut for $89.99 CAD for PlayStation 5 and $79.99 CAD for PlayStation 4 in both physical and digital formats. Those that pre-order the game from participating retailers will receive a digital mini soundtrack with a selection of tracks from Ghost of Tsushima including two songs from Iki Island as well as a digital art book which features ten pieces of Iki Island concept art. Players that pre-order the game from the PlayStation Store will be able to download Ghost of Tsushima on PlayStation 4 to experience the game prior to launch at which point they have the option to upgrade to Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut for an additional cost.

Sucker Punch has several upgrade options available to players which will become available on August 20th, 2021 and includes offers such as upgrading Ghost of Tsushima on PlayStation 4 to Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut on PlayStation 4 for $29.99 CAD or upgrading directly to the PlayStation 5 version for $39.99 CAD with more details coming to the PlayStation Store closer to launch.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut is scheduled to release on August 20th, 2021 exclusively for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 Pro, and PlayStation 4 consoles.
