PlayStation Retires Killzone Website Leaving Franchise Future Up In The Air

It would appear that the future of the Killzone franchise might be over as PlayStation has retired the official game website which now redirects visitors to PlayStation.com instead.

Guerrilla Games thanks fans and visitors for their enthusiasm and support over the years and explains that player statistics and ranking data for Killzone Mercenary and Killzone Shadow Fall will not be affected; online multiplayer modes included. Players looking to create or manage their clans in Shadow Fall are also unfortunately out of luck as this service will not be supported or available moving forward.

The retiring of the Killzone website does not necessarily mean that the franchise is finished altogether. With the creation of PlayStation Studios – announced on May 12th, 2020 – it could be that Sony wants to direct as much traffic as possible to their flagship website rather than having a catalogue of external sites.

By eliminating or redirecting all existing gaming websites, gamers would always be connected directly with PlayStation and would not have to go too far to find what they are looking for in terms of games, hardware, and support.

On the other hand, it could very well mean that the Killzone franchise is indeed finished as Guerrilla Games is currently busy developing the next instalment of the Horizon series – Horizon Forbidden West – which is scheduled to release in 2021 at some point. The first entry in the series – Horizon Zero Dawn – was both a commercial and critical success with players praising the visuals, gameplay, and most of all – the inclusion of a strong female protagonist. At this time, Guerrilla Games has not commented on the current state of the Killzone franchise.
