The Isle Of Bigsnax DLC Offers An Oversized World With New Gameplay Mechanics And Customization
The world of Bugsnax is about to receive an extra large portion of whimsical adventure with the upcoming The Isle of Bigsnax DLC which is scheduled to release on April 28th, 2022 as a FREE update for all players. It was officially announced via social media and the PlayStation Blog on April 12th, 2022 by Kevin Zuhn, Creative Director, Young Horses Inc. who provided some delicious details on exactly what players can expect from the latest expedition. The studio also revealed that Bugsnax would be arriving on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One through Xbox Game Pass as well as on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite consoles via the Nintendo eShop for the first time; originally a PlayStation timed exclusive. Players can wishlist the game on Steam or purchase by way of the Epic Games Store.
Players will have the opportunity to explore the titular Isle of Bigsnax – an entirely new biome that is twice the size of any other found on Snaktooth Island; the main setting for the game. A mysterious and massive land mass suddenly bursts out of the ocean and players will find themselves investigating the area alongside fellow Grumpuses including Chandlo, Floofty, Triffany, and Shelda respectively. Bugsnax found on this island are quite massive compared to their counterparts on Snaktook Island and in order to properly capture these critters, players will need to procure and utilize Shrink Spice – an extremely volatile substance which can miniaturize the gargantuan creatures and subsequently make them much easier to handle. Best be careful as it will also quickly detonate if not thrown within 30 seconds.
Unfortunately, the Bigsnax are not going to give up so easily and are more than qualified to evade capture and defend themselves. For instance, the Clawbsteroni (a mac and cheese lobster) carries a large trampoline on top of its head which will make throwing Shrink Spice an ineffective tactic and force players to find another way to tackle this challenge. The Young Horses team wanted to put a lot more emphasis on environmental puzzles this time around and even went as far as borrowing a few pieces of inspiration from Archimedes himself, according to Zuhn. The puzzles will increase in both difficulty and varying levels of complexity such as navigating through vertical mazes with the Buggy Ball along with venturing deep into mechanical ruins with the help of fire and the Trip Shot device.
Players will also have plenty of ways to customize their Bugsnax experience with their very own hut which can be obtained from Filbo back in Snaxburg. This gameplay feature was unfortunately left out of the initial release but has made its way into the game at last with Zuhn remarking “we always wanted to give players a home [to live amongst] their Grumpus friends, but it was sadly left on the cutting room floor.” In the main game, a half-finished hut could be found inside the Snaxburg biome and served as a sort of hint as to what was possibly coming in the future. Players will have the opportunity to decorate their huts with nearly 180 items including furniture, wallpaper, and lawn ornaments. And be on the lookout for Bugsnax wearing hats along with new quests, challenges, riddles, and more!
Bugsnax is currently available now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 Pro, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC.
