Emergency Meeting! Among Us Officially Comes To Fortnite With Collaboration To Mend Past Mistakes
Epic Games and Innersloth have joined forces to officially bring Among Us to the world of Fortnite with a collaboration that has been a long time coming after what had unfortunately happened between the two respected gaming companies. Back in August 2021, Epic Games released a brand new game mode for Fortnite which instantly divided the gaming community – Impostors – due to the fact that its mere name, story, and gameplay were nearly identical to elements that are found within Among Us and fans were not happy with the announcement. Victoria Tran, Community Director, Innersloth had voiced her dismay on social media after the initial release and mentioned that it “would’ve been really, really cool to collab” on the project; others were quick to call for Epic Games to make things right.
Fast forward to October 2021 and Epic Games declared that Among Us was a major inspiration for their project and formally invited Innersloth to sit down and create something fun for the future – a proposal which was graciously accepted by the latter. While some community members were intent on sticking to their morals, condemning the Fortnite developers for their actions, others actively commended them for doing the right thing – giving credit were credit was due. Impostors is now a permanent game mode and has received numerous updates including Role Bias which gives players the opportunity to choose their preferred position – Agent or Imposter – alongside Voice Chat which allows communication with participating players through in-game voice chat rather than utilizing Quick Chat text options.
Players could purchase the Among Us Bundle from the Item Shop for 600 V-Bucks which packaged the Crewmate Back Bling and Distraction Dance Emote together. The Back Bling was customizable with ten different colours to choose from including red, blue, green, white, purple, and brown. It would react subsequently to gameplay, walking in place whenever the player was moving and collapse whenever a player was knocked down by an opponent; the signature sound effect from Among Us would also play during this particular outcome. The Emote was inspired by Innersloth’s Henry Stickmin series.
Those that missed the Among Us collaboration in the Fortnite Item Shop can still obtain the cosmetics through the Epic Games Store itself. Players simply need to purchase the base game for $4.99 CAD or grab a Stars Pack which range between $2.19 CAD and $27.99 CAD before June 9th, 2023 at 11AM EST in order to receive both cosmetics at no additional cost. Among Us has been previously made available as a FREE downloadable title but players that might have picked up the title during that time will still need to make a purchase if that scenario applies to them; items deposited afterwards.
Fortnite is available now on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 Pro, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Windows PC, and Android devices – iOS compatibility is available through GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
