Fortnite Enters First-Person Mode With Early Access Ballistic Experience; Competitive 5v5 Tactical Match
Epic Games is workshopping a first-person mode for Fortnite called Ballistic – which offers players a competitive 5v5 tactical experience in a strict no-building zone. The preliminary phase features limited assets including a singular map – Skyline 10 – and a basic set of weapons. Epic Games is collecting feedback from players throughout the process and will make adjustments when necessary. There is no word on when Ballistic mode will officially launch – players residing in South Korea and Russia are currently ineligible to participate but Epic Games is working on having it available in both regions soon according to developers. All Fortnite capable platforms are supported at this present time.
Ballistic Mode – Supported Cosmetics
- Outfits | Back Blings | Kicks | Wraps | Sprays | Emotes
Ballistic Mode – Non-Supported Cosmetics
- Pickaxes | Contrails | Instruments | Vehicles | Jam Tracks
Players are sorted into two teams – Attackers and Defenders – with the former pressing to activate their Rift Point Device whilst the latter works to prevent that from happening. Securing a victory can be achieved by one of two means: device is detonated (Attackers win) or Attackers have been eliminated (Defenders win) with teams switching after six rounds – seven are needed to win the game.
Credits can be earned by eliminating players and exchanged for weapons and Flex Gadgets – items restricted to individual players and cannot be dropped or picked up by teammates:
- Proximity Mine – detonates when opponent is within range; place on walls, floor, and ceiling
- Bubble Shield – temporary protective barrier; impervious to bullets and projectiles
- Recon Grenade – marks nearby enemies
- Frag Grenade – bounces and explodes with damage to nearby enemies
- Impulse Grenade – launch enemies and/or teammates

Ballistic supports Ranked and Unranked modes – those that abandon Ranked matches prematurely will receive a penalty; guilty parties will therefore be unable to join another match until the punishment period has ended which increases to 12 hours following the seventh offense and onwards.
Fortnite is available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Windows PC, Amazon Luna, and Android devices with iOS compatibility available through GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
