Fortnite Paradise Heralds Chrome Covered Season With Brie Larson Officially Suiting Up As Paradigm
The Summer vibes have vanished on the Fortnite island and now a mysterious Chrome substance has begun taking over. Chapter 3 – Season 4 officially launched on September 18th, 2022 and players have been introduced to a new antagonist: The Herald whom was briefly seen observing the celebrations towards the end of the cinematic trailer last season. With members of the Seven vanishing and getting consumed by the strange substance, Paradigm (portrayed by Brie Larson) must figure out a way to save reality as things look grim with mentions of The Nothing arriving soon. Players will assess the situation through December 3rd, 2022 as they assemble an eclectic crew of defenders including Spider-Gwen as the Level 100 Battle Pass reward; based on her Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse appearance.
Epic Games has introduced several map changes and gameplay mechanics to Fortnite for the Paradise season including a Chrome Splash throwable item which allows players to coat buildings, vehicles, and terrain in a chromatic substance – providing an opportunity to phase through walls with relative ease for a surprise assault and ambush on opponents or a quick escape. Those that find themselves covered in chrome – accidently or on purpose – will move faster, be temporarily immune to fall damage, as well as gain the air dash ability. And players can utilize new tactical gear including the Port-A-Bunker which creates a smaller sheltered structure with reinforced metal walls, a versatile ramp, and functional side doors with defensive tires surrounding the perimeter to bounce away incoming intruders.
Overcoming the Chrome menace will not be easy and island inhabitants have taken it upon themselves to prepare for the worst and escape in the most logical way possible: into the sky. Locations have been secured with balloons and propulsion units to airlift them away from the ground with players able to utilize D-Launcher stations for an extra boost to reach those areas. Those looking for extra firepower should seek out Low-Security Vaults and High-Security Vaults scattered around the island which requires keys in order to unlock. Players will discover loot chests and other valuable resources to turn the tide with a maximum of two keys needed to access certain vaults; similar mechanic to keycards which were prevalent during the Resistance themed storyline which ended back in June.
The Battle Pass for Chapter 3 – Season 4 features a predominantly original collection of cosmetics with Gwen Stacy (Spider-Gwen) being the only collaborative offering this time around; a welcome change for some players as crossovers have become more and more abundant. Additionally, the secret skin for Paradise – unlocking halfway through the season – is also an original design (The Herald) and consists of two pages worth of rewards for players to unlock. And Fortnite Crew subscribers are automatically granted access to the Battle Pass as part of their monthly subscription; can be alternatively purchased for 950 V-Bucks at any time throughout the season – progress expires at its conclusion.
Fortnite is available now on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 Pro, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Windows PC, and Android devices – iOS compatibility is available through GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
