PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program Launching Later This Year With Exclusive Offers To Celebrate Players

Sony has announced PlayStation Stars – an upcoming loyalty program that is designed to celebrate the PlayStation community in a meaningful way with exclusive rewards. The announcement was made on July 14th, 2022 and posted to the PlayStation Blog where Grace Chen Vice President, Network Advertising, Loyalty & Licensed Merchandise outlined some of the features and what players can expect when the program launches later this year. It is currently in the early stages of testing and will subsequently launch with regional rollouts with a complete list of eligible markets scheduled to release at some point in the near future. PlayStation Stars will be FREE to join and include bonus offers and benefits to PlayStation Plus subscribers which recently underwent a restructured overhaul.

Players will earn loyalty points which can be redeemed for a variety of rewards including PlayStation Network wallet funds and unannounced PlayStation Store products; PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive extra points from purchases made through the PlayStation Store too. Participants can also earn points by completing campaigns – monthly check-ins – and engaging in various activities including but not limited to winning tournaments, unlocking trophies, and securing a platinum trophy before anyone else in a local time zone. The PlayStation Stars program will evolve over time with additional ways for players to earn loyalty points and events that will bring the PlayStation community together.

Sony also unveiled a Digital Collectible reward – digital representations of PlayStation fan-favourites including figurines of popular characters and beloved devices from PlayStation history. And while these rewards sound eerily similar to NFT (Non-Fungible Token) items, players can rest assured knowing that these are completely different as Chen explained to the Washington Post stating that players will not be able to sell or trade these rewards; purely for fans to enjoy and showcase to their friends.
