Princess Peach: Showtime! Tackles Dramatic Arts As Nintendo Casts Peach In Solo Theatrical Adventure
Princess Peach is stepping outside the Mushroom Kingdom and into the spotlight with her upcoming adventure – Princess Peach: Showtime! – which comes nearly twenty years after her first solo experience landed on Nintendo DS handheld systems. While the game was briefly teased in June 2023 with very little information about what was shown, Nintendo decided that it was finally time to raise the curtains and reveal the title on September 14th, 2023 during the Nintendo Direct presentation. Peach received her own game – Super Princess Peach – in 2005 which turned the “damsel in distress” troupe completely around with Mario and Luigi needing to be saved and was met with generally modest reviews.
Toad rushes to Princess Peach with an advertisement for the dazzling Sparkle Theater – known for their wonderful performances throughout the land. But upon arrival, Grape and the Sour Bunch begin causing all kinds of mischief and take centre stage for themselves; turning the once spectacular play into a terrible tragedy. Players encounter Stella and join forces with the theatre guardian to rescue the performers and ultimately save the show. Peach can use the power of Stella’s ribbon in various ways including defeating Sour Bunch minions and transforming set pieces to their original design however it does have limitations and requires another method to clear obstacles and solve puzzles.
When Peach stands on a stone platform, she becomes part of the show – donning a costume to gain abilities that compliments the narrative. Swordfighter Peach carries a rapier sword which slices objects with precision while Detective Peach must locate stolen artifacts and investigate clues to uncover the classic “who done it?” mystery. Players will learn even more showstopping powers including martial arts as Kung-Fu Peach and baking as Patisserie (french for pastry) Peach respectively; a western inspired course might appear in the game as one of the marquee seems to depict a cowboy hat overhead but it has not been confirmed by Nintendo at this point in time – exact course count is unknown.
Princess Peach: Showtime! is scheduled to launch on March 22nd, 2024 exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
