Shortnitemares Adds A Halloween Twist To Popular Fortnite Film Festival With Spooky Animated Films
Grab some buttery popcorn, a warm blanket, and a flashlight because Epic Games is hosting a spooktacular film festival with Shortnitemares – a Halloween twist on the third installment of the popular Short Nite film festival. The event started on October 28th, 2021 at 6PM EST and will run until November 1st, 2021 at 6PM EST with seven horror themed animated short films appearing on the marquee this time around. Players can squad up with their friends in the Shortnitemares playlist and proceed to the Shortnitemares Theatre – built by Quantum Builds – to watch the films.
Each of the films has their own viewing room which allows players to pick and choose which film(s) they would like to enjoy with the main screen showing all of the films on a repeated loop throughout the duration of the Shortnitemares event. Players can also enjoy the experience whilst competing for a Victory Royale in the Fortnite Battle Royale game mode via Picture-in-Picture which is accessible in the settings menu. Shows begin automatically after a 30 second countdown which gives players plenty of time to grab a seat and enjoy the show – no texting during the cinematic experience!
Players that watch Shortnitemares content for 30 minutes in the Shortnitemares Theatre will recieve the Spray Matter Spray as a commemorative momento for participating in the event. There is no particular order in which the films need to be watched to unlock the reward, players simply need to accumulate 30 minutes of viewing time. The Shortnitemares films include:
- But Milk Is Important – A man with social anxiety is followed by a naive and clumsy creature, unaware that the creature is actually trying to help him with slightly unconventional methods…
- INN – A strange girl captures the attention of a young man staying at a local Inn
- Alma – A little girl’s attention is caught by a strange doll in the window of a Toy Shop
- The Eye – A maintenance worker travels to a distant planet to fix a fallen drone, only to discover a hostile force that won’t let her leave
- We Will Be Monsters – Part 1 of a NEW Universal Monsters mini-series featuring the Bride of Frankenstein as she embarks on a globe-trotting quest to rescue fellow Monsters
- Nightmare In The Morning – Waking up in the morning is a nightmare
- Mon Ami Qui Brille Dans La Nuit (My Friend Who Shines In The Night) – After losing their memory, a ghost meets a man who tries to help them
Epic Games has clarified via the official Fortnite Status Twitter page that players will receive their FREE cosmetic once Shortnitemares has concluded with delivery to Lockers estimated to be sometime early next week. Players should time themselves to ensure that they have met the requirement to unlock the Spray Matter Spray as it will be unobtainable past the wrap up date.
After the credits have finished rolling, players can head over to the Fortnite Item Shop and purchase the Kernel Poppy Outfit for 1,200 V-Bucks which includes the Slurpy Slush’em Back Bling. The Butter Buddy Emote is also available to purchase for 200 V-Bucks and features a Halloween twist on the previously released Jumbo Popcorn Emote. The Kernel Poppy Outfit arrived in the Fortnite Item Shop on October 27th, 2021 at 8PM EST and will be available for a limited time – likely rotating out at the conclusion of the Shortnitemares film festival; subject to return at a later date.
Those looking to spend a little more time in the Shortnitemares Theatre should proceed towards the bathroom for a special showing of the Gildedguy Gets Up! animated short film. The title was featured during the 2nd Short Nite event on July 23rd, 2021 and served as Gildedguy’s red carpet debut in the Fortnite Item Shop with players able to purchase the Outfit for 1,500 V-Bucks.
While Epic Games has not officially commented on the matter, players should consider enjoying the experience offline with their friends rather than streaming the entire event on Twitch or uploading monetized segments to their YouTube channels for copyright reasons. The previous Short Nite event came with a similar warning due to the legalities and broadcasting of other artists work without their permission; copyright strikes or account bans could very well occur as a result.
Fortnite is available now on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 Pro, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Windows PC, and Android devices.
