Xbox Design Lab Brings Back Rubberized Grips And Metallic Finishes Options To Its Customization Shop

The Xbox Design Lab is bringing back two customization options which were previously available prior to the shutdown of the program on October 14th, 2020 in order to prepare for the upcoming launch of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles. With the Xbox Design Lab, players have the opportunity to create their very own unique Xbox Wireless Controller with access to 19 different colour options which can be applied to the Body, Back, Bumpers, Triggers, Thumbsticks, and D-pad buttons to create something that belongs to them and showcase their favourite character, sports team, and more!

Players now have the opportunity to add Rubberized Grips and Metallic Finishes to their Xbox Wireless Controllers which was confirmed by Mark Auld, Sr. Hardware Engineering Program Manager, Xbox Devices via the Xbox Wire on November 11th, 2021 at 11AM EST. The rubberized grips can be placed in two separate locations – Body & Back – for an extra layer of comfort and control. Players looking to add rubberized grips to their Xbox Wireless Controller can do so for $5.99 CAD for each side.

The Metallic Finishes can be applied to the Triggers and D-pad button of the Xbox Wireless Controller for an additional cost of $3.99 CAD each with players able to choose from 19 different colour options including: Sterling Silver, Pewter Silver, Gunmetal Silver, Abyss Black, Retro Pink, Deep Pink, Oxide Red, Zest Orange, Gold, Electric Volt, Velocity Green, Glacier Blue, Dragonfly Blue, Mineral Blue, Photon Blue, Midnight Blue, Regal Purple, Nocturnal Green, and Warm Gold. These NEW colours are exclusive to the Triggers and D-pad button portions and therefore cannot be applied to any other area.

Xbox has also added three NEW colours including Nocturnal Green, Velocity Green, and Dragonfly Blue which is available for the first time in the program. Those that have previously purchased or designed Xbox Wireless Controllers in the past might have noticed that the Military Green and Electric Green colour options are no longer available but Auld explains that they have simply been reworked into the aforementioned Nocturnal Green and Velocity Green colours. Nocturnal Green now features a richer and more earth-like colour whilst Electric Green is more in line with the iconic Xbox colour.

Players looking for a little bit of inspiration to get their creative juices flowing can check out the Inspired By collection which features designs inspired by the latest Xbox releases including Forza Horizon 5, Riders Republic, Battlefield 2042, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition with even more inspiration expected to rotate into the Xbox Design Lab on a regular basis. Additional titles preparing to launch later this year include the highly anticipated Halo Infinite which is scheduled to release on December 8th, 2021 exclusively for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, Xbox One X, Xbox One, and Windows PC with Day One availability on Xbox Game Pass.

The Xbox Design Lab controllers are made to order and players can expect to receive their custom Xbox Wireless Controllers within 3-4 weeks after placing their orders. Prices start at $69.99 CAD with engraving costing an additional $9.99 CAD which allows players to personalize their creations with a laser engraved message with up to 16 characters; Gamertags would work.
