Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Developers Deploy Dark Chapter With Direct Sequel; War Has Changed
The next chapter in the legendary Call of Duty franchise has been revealed and this time – war has changed. Sledgehammer Games announced on August 17th, 2023 that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is launching on November 10th, 2023 and serves as the first direct sequel in back-to-back years; picking up immediately after the events of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II – its predecessor. Captain Price along with Task Force 141 are facing off against the infamous Vladimir Makarov as he extends his grasp on the world in terrifyingly new ways. In partnership with Infinity Ward – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will deliver an action-packed campaign with signature experiences to Open Combat Missions which make their inaugural debut – providing players with even more options to help get the mission done.
Players got an exclusive look at Open Combat Missions on August 23rd, 2023 during Opening Night Live where David Swenson, Creative Director, Sledgehammer Games explained that dedicated levels are entirely player directed – meaning they can progress them in whatever manner they see fit according to their particular playstyle. Those that favour stealth approaches can equip suppressors to their weapons and complete objectives without alerting the enemy whereas explosion enthusiasts can grab thicker armour and go guerrilla style. Shelby Carleton, Narrative Designer, Sledgehammer Games introduced players to the first level in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III campaign – Operation 627 – focusing on Task Force 141 descending the fortified Verdansk stronghold to retrieve an unknown asset.
Players can pre-order Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III from participating retailers right now with two versions available to purchase – Cross-Gen/Standard Edition and Vault Edition – with special benefits included in the latter selection. The (digital only) Vault Edition is priced at $129.99 CAD and includes perks not found in the Cross-Gen/Standard Edition: Nemesis Operator Pack, 2 Weapon Vaults, BlackCell (1 Season) +30 Additional Tier Skips, and +5 Battle Pass Tier Skips for PlayStation owners. Multiplayer aficionados will be excited to hear that sixteen maps including Rust, Terminal, and Derail which were originally featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) are returning with enhancements to ensure they fit perfectly within the scope of the latest installment of the franchise. Players will be able to engage in Hardpoint and Kill Confirmed modes on Favela – never part of the original experience for that map but the developers insist that it will be quite refreshing. Those looking to participate in large-scale encounters can take advantage of Battle Maps to launch Ground War and Invasion modes alongside a colossal War Mode map which features a narrative driven multiplayer story; last seen in Call of Duty: WWII (2017) where teams complete rounds in offensive and defensive positions.
Fear not because zombies will be present in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III with Treyarch handling development of the mode which marks the first time that this game mode has appeared in the newly established Modern Warfare universe. Players can team up with other squads and survive relentless hordes of zombies in Modern Warfare Zombies (MWZ) – playable on the largest Call of Duty Zombies map in history with story based missions, core mechanics, and secrets to uncover. Finally, content and weapon progression from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II carries over to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III including attachments – honouring the legacy, dedication, and investment of seasoned players.
