The first Alan Wake game launched on May 18th, 2010 exclusively for Xbox 360 and Windows PC and a spin-off sequel titled Alan Wake’s American Nightmare released two years later on February 22nd, 2012 during the annual Xbox Live House Party celebration event for 1200 Microsoft Points.
Alan Wake is a best-selling author and has traveled to the idyllic and peaceful town of Bright Falls, Washington with the hopes of reconnecting with his wife Alice as they look to take a break from their pressure cooker celebrity life in New York City. Tragedy ensues and Alan Wake finds himself behind the wheel of a crashed car in a primordial forest with no knowledge of the accident. Alice has gone missing and a mysterious supernatural force is possessing the town and locals are stalking him through the forest with malicious intent. Alan Wake must uncover the secrets of a story called “Departure” and hold on to his sanity as he searches for Alice and find the answers to this nightmarish world.
At Remedy, our passion are the stories we bring to our fans through the medium of video games. With great pleasure, we’re proud to bring the complete version of our classic story-driven horror experience Alan Wake to PlayStation for the very first time.
Sam Lake, Creative Director, Remedy Entertainment
Remedy Entertainment is excited to announce that Alan Wake Remastered will run at 4K resolution with 60FPS on PlayStation 5 consoles while the PlayStation 4 Pro version will offer a choice between Performance (60FPS) and Quality (4K 30FPS) modes; the PlayStation 4 version of Alan Wake Remastered will run at an even 30FPS. Combat will take advantage of the DualSense Wireless Controllers on the PlayStation 5 console with the Adaptive Triggers providing feedback based on the current weapon being used including the revolver and flare gun which will help immerse players even further in the town of Bright Falls as they battle against The Taken – hostile shadow entities.
Almost everything from the original Alan Wake game has been retouched including individual items, environment scenes, props, textures, sound files, and the UI (User Interface) artwork. Remedy Entertainment has dedicated an entire team of developers to focus on the production of trees and foliage with the purposes of creating an unnerving atmosphere. Lake explains that it was important for the team to preserve the identity and unique visual style of the Alan Wake universe while elevating the graphics to meet the expectations of players in the modern age of gaming.
Alan Wake Remastered is scheduled to release on October 5th, 2021 for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 Pro, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC.
